Abstract

OBJECTIVE: to describe the neurosciences of language and how the latter influences cognitive development. METHOD: theoretical construction based on reflection and literature review RESULTS: the series of advances in technology allow us to observe in real time the different areas of the brain that are activated under different stimuli. Today, through these advances, we know which are the different brain structures that are activated under different behaviors or activities. CONCLUSION: determining how language actively participates in cognitive development is a fundamental part of the structure and formation of thought. The influence of the society in which we grow up, develop and in which we are later models for the following generations, apart from the culture in which we develop, play an important role in this issue. Language, then, is the force that moves the cognitive gear, while society and its culture are the ones that give it direction and meaning.

Jorge Luis Archila Puac, Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala

He is a Psychopedagogue, graduated from the Pan American University of Guatemala, Clinical Psychologist graduated from the University of San Carlos of Guatemala. He is also a Certified Psychometrician by the Board of Certified Psychometricians of the United States of America (BCP). He currently works at the University of California in San Francisco, in the Department of Neurology, Memory and Aging Center, where he works as a Psychometrist and coordinator in clinical research, as well as in clinical trials. He currently resides in San Francisco, California.
