Abstract

OBJECTIVE: to determine the levels of vitamin D insufficiency in older adults and to establish the associated major geriatric syndromes. METHOD: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in 384 patients who attended a geriatric care clinic in the municipality of Zacapa. RESULTS: the most frequent age range was from 70 to 79 years with 47% (182), finding the female gender as predominant in 56% (216), it was evidenced that geriatric syndromes associated with vitamin D insufficiency they were frailty, sarcopenia, dementia, moderate to severe dependence, and polypharmacy. CONCLUSION: Moderate insufficiency predominated according to the biochemical analysis with 47% (182).
